Board of Governors 2011–2012

The Board of Governors consists of representatives from each of the 15 Academy branches. All branches are represented on the Board by three governors except the Makeup Artists and Hairstylists Branch, created in 2006, which has one representative.
The Board of Governors is responsible for corporate management, control and general policies. The Board of Governors also appoints a CEO and a COO to supervise the administrative activities of the Academy. CEO Dawn Hudson and COO Ric Robertson and their staff of over 200 conduct the Academy's day-to-day business.
Officers 2011–2012
President – Tom Sherak, Executives Branch
Mr. Sherak is the former chairman of the 20th Century Fox Domestic Film Group and was a partner at Revolution Studios. He is currently serving his third consecutive term as president of the Academy and is a consultant for Skydance Productions and Relativity Media. Bio
First Vice President – Hawk Koch, Producers Branch
Mr. Koch's producer credits include "Losing Isaiah" and "Gorky Park." He recently served as executive producer on "Source Code." He is chair of the General Membership Committee.
Vice President – Robert Rehme, Executives Branch
A former president of Universal Pictures and CEO of New World, Mr. Rehme has served two separate terms as president of the Academy. His producing credits include "Clear and Present Danger" and "Patriot Games." He is currently serving as the chair of the Executives Branch Executive Committee, the Audit Committee and Centers Oversight Committee.
Vice President – Phil Robinson, Writers Branch
Mr. Robinson earned an Oscar nomination for his screenplay of "Field of Dreams," which he also directed. He is producing the 2011 Governors Awards for the Academy. He is chair of the Awards Rules Committee and the International Outreach Committee.
Treasurer – John Lasseter, Short Films and Feature Animation Branch
Mr. Lasseter, a two-time Student Academy Award winner, is the recipient of both a competitive Oscar (for the animated short film "Tin Toy") and a Special Achievement Award for "Toy Story." He has also earned nominations for "Monsters, Inc.," "Cars" and "Toy Story 3." He is chief creative officer at Pixar Animation Studios and Walt Disney Studios Animation and is currently serving as the chair of the Finance Committee.
Secretary – Annette Bening, Actors Branch
Ms. Bening earned an Oscar nomination for her supporting role in "The Grifters" and additional nominations for her lead performances in "American Beauty," "Being Julia" and "The Kids Are All Right." She is currently serving as the chair of the Actors Branch Executive Committee.
CEO – Dawn Hudson
Prior to becoming the Academy's CEO in 2011, Ms. Hudson spent 20 years at the helm of Film Independent, which grew from a small non-profit into a nationally recognized arts institution under her leadership.
Board of Governors 2011–2012
Michael Apted – Documentary Branch
Mr. Apted directs both fiction and non-fiction films. His documentary work includes the ongoing "7 Up" series. He recently directed "The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader."
John Bailey – Cinematographers Branch
Mr. Bailey's recent cinematography credits include "Country Strong" and "He's Just Not That into You."
Craig Barron – Visual Effects Branch
Mr. Barron has contributed visual effects to more than 50 motion pictures and received an Oscar for his work on "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button."
Ed Begley Jr. – Actors Branch
Mr. Begley's recent film acting credits include "For Your Consideration" and "Pineapple Express." He appears as the title character in the upcoming "Wish Wizard."
Curt Behlmer – Sound Branch
Mr. Behlmer, executive vice president of theatrical services and COO of Technicolor Digital Cinema, was awarded the Academy's John A. Bonner Medal of Commendation for his outstanding service to the organization.
Annette Bening – Actors Branch
Ms. Bening earned an Oscar nomination for her supporting role in "The Grifters" and additional nominations for her lead performances in "American Beauty," "Being Julia" and "The Kids Are All Right." She is currently serving as the chair of the Actors Branch Executive Committee.
Kathryn Bigelow – Directors Branch
Ms. Bigelow won Oscars for directing and producing "The Hurt Locker." Her other directing credits include "K-19: The Widowmaker" and "Point Break." She is currently working on an untitled drama about Navy Seal Team 6 and serves as the chair of the Directors Branch Executive Committee.
Jim Bissell – Art Directors Branch
Mr. Bissell is a production designer who earned an Oscar nomination for his work on "Good Night, and Good Luck." His credits also include "The Spiderwick Chronicles" and "E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial." He recently completed work on "Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol," along with fellow governor Rosemary Brandenburg.
Jon Bloom – Short Films and Feature Animation Branch
Mr. Bloom's short film "Overnight Sensation" earned an Oscar nomination. His production company, Bloomfilm, was founded in 1987. He has produced numerous film packages for Academy Awards telecasts and the Governors Awards. He is currently serving as the chair of the Short Films and Feature Animation Branch Executive Committee.
Rosemary Brandenburg – Art Directors Branch
Ms. Brandenburg is a set decorator whose recent credits include "Unstoppable" and "Public Enemies." She recently completed work on "Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol" and is serving as the chair of the Art Directors Branch Executive Committee.
James L. Brooks – Writers Branch
Mr. Brooks has received eight Academy Award nominations and won Oscars for directing, writing and producing Best Picture winner "Terms of Endearment." He most recently wrote, directed and produced "How Do You Know."
Bruce Broughton – Music Branch
Mr. Broughton is a composer; his feature scores include that for "Silverado," which earned him an Oscar nomination. He is currently serving as the chair of the Music Branch Executive Committee.
Anne V. Coates – Film Editors Branch
Ms. Coates is a five-time Academy Award nominee. She won the Film Editing Oscar for "Lawrence of Arabia." She most recently served as editor on "Extraordinary Measures" and "The Golden Compass."
Richard P. Crudo – Cinematographers Branch
Mr. Crudo's cinematography credits include "Down to Earth," "Outside Providence" and "American Pie."
Caleb Deschanel – Cinematographers Branch
Mr. Deschanel has earned five Cinematography nominations, most recently for "The Passion of the Christ." He recently completed work on "Killer Joe," "Dream House" and "Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter." He is currently serving as the chair of the Cinematographers Branch Executive Committee.
Richard Edlund – Visual Effects Branch
Mr. Edlund has won four Oscars and earned an additional six nominations. He has also received three Scientific and Technical Achievement Awards and was awarded the John A. Bonner Medal of Commendation. His credits include "Poltergeist," "Raiders of the Lost Ark" and "Star Wars." He is currently serving as the chair of the Scientific and Technical Awards Committee.
Leonard Engelman – Makeup Artists and Hairstylists Branch
Mr. Engelman's credits include "Burlesque," "The Accidental Tourist" and "Moonstruck" and is serving as the chair of the Makeup Artists and Hairstylists Branch Executive Committee.
Rob Epstein – Documentary Branch
Mr. Epstein received Oscars for the feature documentaries "The Times of Harvey Milk" and "Common Threads: Stories from the Quilt." He co-wrote, produced and co-directed the feature film "Howl." He is currently serving as chair of the Documentary Branch Executive Committee.
Charles Fox – Music Branch
Mr. Fox has received Oscar nominations for composing the music for the songs "Richard's Window" from "The Other Side of the Mountain" and "Ready to Take a Chance Again" from "Foul Play."
Robert Friedman – Public Relations Branch
Mr. Friedman is co-chairman and CEO of Summit Entertainment. Previously he held top-level positions at Warner Bros. and Paramount.
Jim Gianopulos – Executives Branch
Mr. Gianopulos is the co-chairman of Fox Filmed Entertainment. He is currently serving as the chair of the Investment Committee.
Mark Goldblatt – Film Editors Branch
Mr. Goldblatt was nominated in the Film Editing category for "Terminator 2: Judgment Day." He served as editor on "Rise of the Planet of the Apes." He is currently serving as the chair of the Film Editors Branch Executive Committee.
Don Hall – Sound Branch
Mr. Hall's 40 years worth of sound editing credits include "A Walk in the Clouds," "Divine Madness" and "The Towering Inferno."
Tom Hanks – Actors Branch
Mr. Hanks is a five-time Academy Award nominee who won back-to-back Oscars for his lead performances in "Philadelphia" and "Forrest Gump." He was most recently seen in "Larry Crowne" and stars in the upcoming "Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close."
Gale Anne Hurd – Producers Branch
Ms. Hurd's producing credits include "The Incredible Hulk," "The Abyss" and the first three "Terminator" movies. With fellow governor Hawk Koch, she is producing the upcoming "Very Good Girls." She is currently serving as the chair of the Nicholl Fellowships Committee.
Cheryl Boone Isaacs – Public Relations Branch
Ms. Isaacs is a public relations executive and the former head of publicity at Paramount Pictures. She also served as president of theatrical marketing for New Line Cinema.
Mark Johnson – Producers Branch
Mr. Johnson, recipient of two Best Picture Oscar nominations and a statuette for "Rain Man," most recently produced "Don't Be Afraid of the Dark," "The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader" and "My Sister's Keeper." He is currently serving as the chair of the Producers Branch Executive Committee and the Foreign Language Film Award Executive Committee.
Hawk Koch – Producers Branch
Mr. Koch's producer credits include "Losing Isaiah" and "Gorky Park." He recently served as executive producer on "Source Code." He is chair of the General Membership Committee.
Bill Kroyer – Short Films and Feature Animation Branch
Mr. Kroyer directed and produced the Oscar-nominated animated short film "Technological Threat." He also directed the animated feature "FernGully: The Last Rainforest." He is currently serving as the chair of the Cinema 2.0 Committee and as co-chair of the Science and Technology Council.
Jeffrey Kurland – Art Directors Branch
Mr. Kurland is a costume designer whose most recent project was "Inception." He earned an Oscar nomination for "Bullets over Broadway." He is currently serving as the chair of the Costume Design Committee and co-chair of the Governors Ball Committee.

Paul Mazursky – Directors Branch
An actor, director, writer and producer, Mr. Mazursky has received four Oscar nominations for writing and one Best Picture nomination (for "An Unmarried Woman").
Michael Moore – Documentary Branch
Mr. Moore won the Academy Award for his documentary feature "Bowling for Columbine" and was nominated for "Sicko." His other credits include "Capitalism: A Love Story" and "Fahrenheit 9/11."
David Newman – Music Branch
Mr. Newman is a composer who received an Oscar nomination for the score for the animated feature "Anastasia." He recently served as composer on "The Spy Next Door."
Kevin O'Connell – Sound Branch
Mr. O'Connell, a supervising sound mixer, has received 20 nominations for his work, most recently for "Transformers." His credits include "Unstoppable," "Public Enemies" and "National Treasure: Book of Secrets." He is currently serving as the chair of the Sound Branch Executive Committee.
Frank Pierson – Writers Branch
A three-time Academy Award nominee, Mr. Pierson won an Oscar for his original screenplay of "Dog Day Afternoon." He is a past president of the Academy. He is chair of the Writers Branch Executive Committee.
